Hortiespaña, the new Spanish Interprofessional Organization for Fruits and Vegetables (Horticulture)

Wednesday 30 October, the general director of Industria Alimentaria (Food Industry) of the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Environment, Fernando Burgaz, and the president of the Interprofessional Organization for Fruits and Vegetables of Andalusia (Hortyfruta), Francisco Góngora, signed the document creating the Spanish Interprofessional Organization for Fruits and Vegetables (Hortiespaña).

Spain, nearly 20% drop in citrus production (Citrus)

A 19.2% drop in production is expected for the 2015/16 citrus season in Spain compared to the previous year, with a total of approximately 5.7 million tonnes of harvested fruit. Regional estimates, however, show slight differences: A 22.3% drop in volume is expected in the Valencian Community; while in Andalusia, the contraction is estimated only at 11.2%; in Murcia, production expects to nosedive by 23.4%; and Catalogna will record the smallest drop, at 5.83%.

Almeria's greenhouse ravaged by heavy storms (Horticulture)

Between 800 and 1,000 hectares of greenhouses were damaged in Almeria’s Poniente after heavy storms hit the growing region yesterday. Many greenhouses were destroyed and flooded, the worst affected areas were Adra and El Ejido, but the damaged area was also extended to some farms in other municipalities such as Berja.
